"The Monitor Farm has resulted in me taking a more strategic look at my farm business. The monthly pasture growth measurements, on six sites on my farm, has led me to a decision that I will likely retire 30% of the steepest and less productive areas of my farm. The income levels of these areas will never exceed the cost of weed control and maintance regardless of the livestock policy.

"As a result I will be concentrating on producing as much or more from the remaining land. I maintain that I will have a more sustainable business not only in economic terms but also in environmental and social terms – in practice that means our farming systems will be much kinder on our soils and the people that work here."

Alexander Longuet-Higgins
